Rendez-vous - the coolest car chase scene. Ever.

In 1978, filmmaker Claude Lelouch was arrested after strapping a camera to a Ferrari 275 GTB and having his friend (a Formula 1 racer) tear through the heart of Paris going up to 140 MPH. The streets were not closed, mind you, and you see the racer nearly crashing into other cars and almost running over real pedestrians. Its like watching a friend play PGR3, but real. I love the ending (you might fwd to it cuz its kinda long).

This makes Dolby 5.1 seem like a radio clock

Listen to this audio clip from Holophonic Sound with your headphones on. It's so real that it'll give you chills down your spine. Scary.

danah gets MySpace

danah boyd recently gave a talk on MySpace and identity production / digital publics which is a great read. She provides a crisp summary of why MySpace is so hawt with the teens - namely that by providing a mechanism for self-expression along with a public venue in which to interact during a time when teens find such public spaces increasingly unavailable, MySpace gave teens a place to "hang out" when they needed such a space the most.

The central theme to MySpace which I find most intruiging is how teens use it as a new, asynchronous and assymetrical mode of communication. Unlike with email, posting a message on MySpace doesn't guarantee any particular audience, or any audience at all. It's more analogous to leaving a graffiti note scribbled on a bench in the main quad where you know your friends are likely to sit. This mode of communication doesn't have an analogue in the physical world - likely because spaces which such intensity of visitation do not exist physically as they do digitally (well, at least now with MySpace).

Just some rambling thoughts, but props to danah on your continuing insights (and for some dope infected mushroom on your profile ;)
